Web-Based Marketing- Recent Trends

I'm sure by now many of you have heard of internet/web based services such as Facebook and Myspace. With the recent sensational hit of additional services like "Twitter," many companies have begun to use the internet as a marketing medium in new ways. I recently came across another site that sparked my curiosity: Whrrl: www.whrrl.com
If you've not had a chance, check it out- Like Twitter, Whrrl is a site for individuals or groups(Recreation Agencies?) to post almost real-time updates- The direction that Whrrl takes that is different from Twitter, is the ability to share "stories," as they happen. Whrrl users can upload photos directly from web-enabled digital cameras, as well as smartphones like the iPhone. Users can add captions to photos that tell the story of the event as it unfolds, while additional Whrrl users can add comments or upload photos of their own to the same story. Take some time to check out the site, and let me know what you think about it's potential as a way to market special events, programs, services that your recreation agency offers.
