Summer Camp Length

Summer Camp Length

Hello fellow RecWavers,
I'm assume a lot of us a currently busy with various summer camp programs. A few questions.

For the standard day camp programs-
How many weeks do you run your camp? Is there a specific reason why it is that length?

Can campers register on a week-by-week basis or is it an all or nothing?

Thanks.

re: Summer Camp Length

For the past 6 years, we have run a 10-week camp based on community need; the week after school ends and the week before school starts. We will be cutting that down to an 8-week summer in favor of more effective staff training and preparing for fall programs. Campers can sign up week to week based on convenience for the families. I think we would lose a huge amount of campers if we didn't offer week to week.

Summer Camp Length

It is dependent upon when school ends in June, due to snow days. The last few years, the day program has been seven weeks. We typically don't start until the second Monday in the summer, as we need at least three days the week before the program begins for staff training. We also finish a week and a half before school begins in August, as staff members need to get ready to go back to college or attend high school fall sports camps.

Our Camp runs for either 8 or 9 weeks depending on when the last day of school is. We usually start on the Monday following the last day of school and we run through the first week in August. Our Community has asked us to go longer but I lose the majority of my seasonal help to college. I staff my camp with either college kids (mostly education majors)or teachers. Plus this gives my staff time to take a possible much needed vacation!
