Hello,
We at the City of Painesville have been fortuneate enough to have great partners here in our community. Organizations from the local library, college, Sr. Center, and Salvation Army have all teamed up with us to deliver quality programming at one time or another.

I'd like some examples of such partnerships in your community and what you gained from it, and what your partnering organization gained from it as well.

Thanks!

Partnering

Greetings,
I am very happy to see you note that your local college is considered a partner in your community.

From the academic side we have several projects to assient in what I call "community wellness".

1. For 25 years we have offfered a program for disabled adults called
"Thursday Night Program". It in a way a lab for all recreation
majors (a required class). The participants are tranported to the
campus every Thursday evening and are provided with a rec. night
out facilitated by our students and the faculty member who runs
the class.

2. Two years ago we instituted a similar program but directed at
autistic children. We are partnering with the local school
district. They provide the location, we provide the staff
(students from many disciplines on campus). This program is
offered five or six Saturdays a semester.

3. I teach the recreation facility, planning, design & mgt course.
For several years we have offered local towns and villages the
services of the class to develop recreation & park master plans,
maintenance plans and recommendations for rehabilitate older
parks. Additionally, we have an Earth Sciences Dept with ARC GIS
on campus and the class uses Earth Science to provide products to
the local rec. departments.

I hope these are the type of examples your are looking for.

Mr. Graham,
Thanks for your examples. Those are very good examples, and I certainly believe that our local college is an asset to our community and our department. Thanks!
